Understanding How Aulisa Guardian Angel® Devices Work

If you have ever watched an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”, you can probably remember that many of their hospitalized patients were wearing a small clip on their finger while they were in bed. The clamp-like device was connected through a cord to a monitor that was keeping track of their vital signs, and if one of the indicators went outside normal ranges, an alarm would go off and we would see a fast-paced scene with white coats rushing into the patient’s room.

These types of devices were once available only in hospitals, however modern technological advancements, such as the superior technology developed by Aulisa Medical, have upgraded, and redesigned these systems for in-home use to serve multiple purposes and a larger audience.

Principle of Operation

Aulisa’s Guardian Angel®® monitoring systems measure temperature, SpO2 (functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin) and pulse rate based on non-invasive light-emitting diode (LED) transmittance technology. Like a hospital device, our small sensor chip sends beams of light through the user’s finger or toe, measuring changes of light absorption in oxygenated or deoxygenated blood during each pulse. This is a painless and completely non-invasive process indicated for spot-checking and continuous monitoring during non-motion conditions. It is important for us to ensure that our technology is available to anyone, no matter their technical proficiency, that’s why our systems are easy to use and can be operated by the user or a caregiver.

The Aulisa Difference

While the development of new products in the digital health market is propelling the industry forward at high-speed, we believe it is essential for customers to make informed decisions and use certified devices that have been put through a lengthy process to prove how safe and effective they are. Aulisa Medical’s Guardian Angel®® series is the only wireless vitals monitoring and alarm system with FDA-Cleared technology available on the market for use in the comfort of your home. There is a good reason vital signs include the word vital – their measurements provide critical information about our bodies; it is therefore vital that our devices provide continuous superior and accurate readings that allow users and caregivers to have more peace of mind.

Sensors For Adults, Pediatrics & Infants

Our Guardian Angel® systems are available for use by all age groups and can watch over your loved ones across generations. The GA1001GA2001, and GA1001 Lite series feature a smart sensor specifically designed for infants. The sensor chip is comfortable to wear and must be secured to the baby’s toe for vital sign monitoring.

The sensor module is in permanent communication with the Aulisa View App on the smartphone, as well as with the display monitor and the camera, transmitting and analyzing the measurements once per second. If the user’s vitals change suddenly, an audible alert is sent to the smartphone and/or display monitor.

Additionally, our system uses two basic types of alarms: high priority (sending audible notifications when vitals move outside of the preset range) and medium priority (signaling system issues, such as low battery and disconnection). The vitals’ limits can be customized to make alarms efficient and appropriate for each user’s unique needs, however, we recommend changing them only with the guidance of medical professionals. Under normal circumstances, the alarms have preset default limits.

And next time you watch an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, you’ll know exactly how SPO2 monitoring works!
